Blackstone Academy is a charter school from grades 9-12. It was established in 2002 as a small public school for residents of Pawtucket and Central Falls. The school was established to give an opportunity to kids to attend a college prep school and that connects with the community. Blackstone is populated with 165 students and affiliated programs.






Pawtucket is a low income community in Rhode Island. The median household income is $40,198 and compared to Rhode Island it is $54,902. The percentage of all families below poverty level in Pawtucket is 14.8% which is pretty high compared to Rhode Island’s percent at 8.4%. According to these statistics Pawtucket is higher in poverty than the state and that means that various families and student cannot get the support they need. Students learning are interfered because they cannot get the right materials for school. This ties in to the Pawtucket graduation rate which is 40.2% and it is almost half comparing to the states rate which is 83.7% and that is because most families are below poverty.



The majority of the population is white at 66.5% in Pawtucket. It was shocking that Hispanics was the second biggest race at 19.7% compared to Rhode Island at 12.4%. Black/ African Americans came in 3rd biggest race in Pawtucket at 13.4%.

Blackstone is significantly higher in proficiency compared to Rhode Island in the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP). In the 11th grade 32% of students were proficient in Math in the year 2011 to 2012. This is higher compared to the state proficiency at 30%. Blackstone reaches almost all the states proficiency
